Ford Rimor at Loksa
About this camper
I've owned this 2007 Rimor motorhome, built on a Ford Transit base, for several years, and it's set up for genuine off-grid travel. The layout sleeps four, which suits a couple or a small family with room to spare. Over the last year I've rebuilt the power system around Victron components — an MPPT solar controller, a DC-DC charger, a LiFePO4 battery and an inverter. Feeding it is 400W of solar on an autonomous sun-tracking mount that keeps the battery full even when you stay parked in one place. The fridge is a recently fitted Dometic compressor unit, so it holds temperature on or off shore power. In practice you can camp for days without hooking up. The van has 280,000 km behind it and I won't pretend it's new, but it's mechanically sound and I keep on top of maintenance. It's based in Loksa on the Lahemaa coast, a natural launch point for Baltic coastal routes.
